First Love

Author(s):
Richard  Vetere

Dot, a well-preserved middle-aged woman, has been a widow for over ten years. Her best friend, Sunny, has been made a widow recently. The two neighborhood women speed-walk, try different diets to stay fit and discuss the pros and cons of entering the dating scene. In fact Sunny is pressing Dot to move to Las Vegas with her where they can start new lives with new adventures. But plans are put on hold when "Handsome Bill," Dot's first love whom she hasn't seen for over twenty years, moves back into the neighborhood and reemerges into her life. Dot and Bill dated as teenagers, and even though Dot went on to marry someone else, she secretly yearned for Bill. Sparks fly when they meet again. Bill is still in love with Dot. Everything goes along wonderfully in their rekindled relationship, until they hit the same obstacle that stopped them from marrying years ago- Bill's inability to make a commitment to love at any cost. It is then that Dot realizes that she never gave her loving husband his due. She never gave herself entirely to him because she harbored deep emotions for a man who could never truly love her as Jim did. Dot's terrible disappointment is a lesson to her: fully appreciate those you love; that time may never come again. Unit set.
